Easter at Glastonbury Trip Report

Easter Camp at Glastonbury.
Steve and I arrived at camp Wed arvos, as usual, a day early, hoping to be able to dance naked around the campfire but it wasn't to be, already a few campers there, so we just sat around the fire with our drinks, all rugged up.
Jim arrived early Thursday morning, followed by Arne and Lilly. Just after lunch, they just made it up the hill near Cooroy, thinking someone was going to have to go out and tow them up as they still hadn't arrived over an hour after calling us from Cooroy. We were worried sick and turns out they'd just been doddling, obliviosly, having pies n wees on the way.
Karen arrived after work, and we all had the usual drinks and chatted around the fire.
Nothing major to report that i can remember except a large ute load of firewood delivered and lady who dropped it off named Val may have a private property that we can camp on at Chatsworth on the river. That reminds me. Jim found a new besty, Gary the local farmer. He came around for someone to talk to. He and Jim got on like a house on fire and stood gas bagging for well over an hour. He may also allow us to camp on his property, but we may all need ear protectors.
Early Friday morning, Debbie turned up at 7am for her first camp with us, not a minute later than her eta. Rob and Deno arrived later in the morning to complete the set.
Oh, except for Nigel, who came up as a day tripper on Saturday morning. Camp wasn't the same without Nigel's snoring.
Karen ran a crochet class for beginners on Friday. I made a tiny little scarf. Karen had to show off and make a bikini top and some sort of egg warmer thing for Steve, in his fav colour, hi-viz yellow.
Saturday's first drive was led by Steve, stopping for ice creams at Widgee Store on the way, at 9am! Suppose it's only Easter once a year. We drove up to the Lookout on Widgee Mountain. Jim wasn't happy as he thought it was going to be a flat track up the side of a mountain! to a lookout!
It is a lot easier to drive up and down there than it is walking it, but the drive is way more exciting.
We sat up the top for a while and took in the view. Good day for it. We could see as far as......the eye could see.
Onward and downwards it was time to follow Jim on his allegedly flat drive to the Mount Clara Smelter. The club last visited it 17yrs ago, apparently . Strangest flat track I've ever been on, up and down mountains for about 2hrs before we arrived at the smelter. It has changed a bit since last visit, we were told. The chimney stack, beautiful piece of stonework, had been all repointed and was now fenced off. A few other bits of the smelter remains all enclosed by a fence too. Visitors must have been picking things off.
As if that wasn't enough excitement for one day, we were now heading to the recently renovated Woolooga Hotel for some beers and lunch. Fairly busy, 45 min wait for food, so we just ordered some chips. A riot nearly broke out the front of the pub when our chips arrived before Karen's when she'd ordered first.
She calmed down when hers arrived but then complained that they weren't hot enough and were greasy. Some people are never happy.
Back to camp after that for another night around the fire.
On Sunday morning, when we got up, the Easter Bunny, aka Lily, had been and left some yummy mini-choc eggs in the grass around camp, so it was chocolate for breakfast.
At 9am, we headed off to drive the track on the other side of the creek from the campsite. First time for me, in car there.. it was exciting driving through the long grass in the paddock, wondering if there was a sharp drop-off we couldn't see. Found the track to the creek crossing, drove a little bit further but stopped by fallen trees on the track, cleared some but not enough hours in the day, working bee is needed for the next trip. Jim said it was the shortest, longest drive ever.
Back to camp for lunch. Heather and Rod had arrived as day trippers.
Around happy hour, Heather and Sandra disappeared and 2 strange 2-legged rabbity creatures walked around camp with baskets offering people sweet treats and carrots for those on diets. They disappeared before Sandra and Heather got back.
After dinner, Karen made a fantastic self-saucing chocolate pudding in the camp oven, from scratch. It was really delicious , everyone had some with cream and a really yummy caramel sauce made by Lilly. Well done ladies!
More drinks around the fire then bedtime again, then before we knew it it was Monday morning, the last day. It always comes around too quick.
I met some hiking buddies in the morning. We walked to the lookouts, Point Pure and Eagles Nest. We never got around to having sunset drinks up there over the weekend, so I called Steve and got the remaining campers to drive up and join us for smoko,.
The hikers hiked back to camp and the other guys drove back.
A couple of cups of tea back at camp before Steve and i waved everyone else off as they headed home.
Once again, we had the extra night at the end so we could run naked around the campfire, but once again it was cancelled due to the presence of other campers.
Great weekend all round, great company, plenty of laughs and the weather held up. Best of both worlds with warm sunny days and cool nights and mornings. Mist every morning made it quite atmospheric.
Debbie is a great new addition to the club even though she tried to offend us all on Good Friday by having meat for dinner, but told her it'll take a lot more than that to offend anyone in the club. She must try harder.
Hope everyone else enjoyed it.
Looking forward to the next camp.
Peach Trees for us.
