FAQ's

What sort of trips/events do you have?

Our Trips and Events range from

  • social events e.g., Group dinner, golf, bowls, Christmas Party
  • day drives, with a variety of driving levels, from easy to very difficult
  • weekend and longer driving / camping trips, ranging from remote self-sufficient camping to caravan parks.

Our events are only limited by the willingness of members to suggest and lead them. Although a trip has a single trip leader, we work together to make our events a success.

So, if you have a specific type of driving you would like to do, you can put up a trip suggestion, lead the trip and take others along for the adventure.

Who can drive on club events?

  • Members who have completed the Clubs Driver Awareness Program (DAP), or another approved 4WD Training recognised by the management committee in the last two years.

What is the Driver Awareness Program (DAP)?

  • The Driver Awareness Program (DAP) is a driver education program approved by 4wd Qld that is run by the Club free of charge to financial members.
  • It is a weekend introduction to four-wheel driving held normally at a private property.
  • The purpose is to ensure that members have been introduced to emergency driving techniques, recovery equipment, and good driving practices, including practical driver education in a controlled environment prior to driving at club events.
  • The tracks used for the DAP are designed to be driveable by new inexperienced members in an unmodified four-wheel drive with road tyres.
  • On completion of the DAP you will receive a certificate from the club and you membership will be upgraded.
  • The DAP is open to both primary and any secondary(spouse/partner) member. All spouse/partners are encouraged to attend and complete the DAP.
  • All vehicles must meet the clubs Vehicle Requirements including front and rear rated recovery points to attend the DAP or drive at club events.
  • DAP's are run in February, May, August and November or more often if we have a number of new members.

What are rated recovery points?

  • Rated recovery points are engineered, chassis-mounted attachment points designed to safely withstand specific loads during vehicle recovery unlike standard tow points.
  • They are tested—often via Finite Element Analysis (FEA) or physical, destructive testing—to handle forces from winches or snatch straps. Key features include high-tensile bolts, a stamped load rating, and often sold in pairs
  • Safety & Testing: Rated points ensure they can handle high-load scenarios, protecting both the vehicle and passengers.
  • Load Rating: Usually, quality aftermarket points are rated around (5,000kg) per point, often used in pairs with an equalizer strap to spread the load.
  • Construction: Manufactured from heavy-duty steel designed to mount directly to the chassis.
  • Shackle Compatibility: Designed to accept standard bow shackles, including softer shackles, up to (4.75t) or more.
  • Positioning: Generally sold in pairs for front mounting, allowing for straight-line or angled pulls (if approved) and ensuring proper load distribution.
  • Attachment points fitted on most vehicles under the body of the vehicle are designed to be “transport” or “tie down” attachment points.  Similarly, manufacturers sometimes fit “tow points” and these are designed only for towing.
  • This means that “rated recovery points” are aftermarket items that are left up to the 4WD owner to have installed (preferably professionally).
  • Note that rated recovery points are needed on the front and rear of your 4WD.
  • Prior to completing the Driver Awareness Program, 4WDs must have rated recovery points fitted.

If your 4WD does not have stamped rated recovery points, we suggest you contact the clubs' membership officer for help, membership@4wdadventure.club or call 0458 295 325
